Notification mails not being sent?

0

According to my account settings, I should receive notification mails for all the questions I have asked or answered. However, I did not receive any notification mail, even though there were updates to questions I asked or answered.

Is the notification functionality not turned on yet?

Or... hmmm... come to think of it... does notification start only after your email-address is validated?

Well... my address is validated, but I still don't get notification emails. I did receive the manually fired digest, so mail does work. Is there a problem with the notification email system?

Recently I stopped receiving notifications as well and reported the problem as bug 6554. It turns out that I had to revalidate my e-mail address in order to resolve the problem, but the question remained as to why I had to revalidate my e-mail address all of a sudden.

Then I happened upon this question posted by Sake and also happened to notice that he has a gravatar, as do I. However, originally I did not have a gravatar, and it was a short time later after adding one that I started to notice that I was no longer receiving any notifications.

So, my theory is that when you add a gravatar, you need to revalidate your e-mail address for some reason. Perhaps someone who doesn't currently have a gravatar could add one and test this theory? I tried searching on OSQA's issue tracker and Q/A site about this, but I did not find anything of relevance, so I can't say for certain if this is the reason or not.
