Wireshark on Mac OS X does not open anymore (maybe wrong program association)

How can whenever I open my wireshark (by clicking on the Desktop icon in Mac OS X) it opens my printer instead and nothing happens?

???

  • what do you mean by "it opens my printer"?
  • how do you start Wireshark
  • what is your OS and OS version
  • what is your Wireshark version

I remember when I first time open my wireshark it was asking me to open something. Then I accidentally click on my printer, so from that point whenever i open my wireshark it goes straight opening my printer. I don't know how to get to my wireshark settings because it keeps opening my printer once i click the wireshark icon.

I start the wireshark by clicking the wireshark icon on my macbook desktop screen.

I am using macbook pro Yosemite 10.10.3

I have the latest wireshark version for mac. I just downloaded it 2 days ago at wireshark.org

Thanks.

Did try this?

  • uninstall Wireshark
  • delete Desktop icon
  • reinstall Wireshark

What does the command

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -dump | egrep -i x11

print?

(work around OSQA annoyance)

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -dump | egrep -i x11
            uti: com.apple.x11-mach-o-executable
            description: X11 application

I tried reinstalling it and it still the same. I am sure I had it wrong program association. I remember a prompt pops out when I first opened it. I just accidentally pick my printer. I just need instructions how to disassociate it with my printer. Thanks

I just need instructions how to disassociate it with my printer.

We can't give you that until we figure out how it's associated; that's what I'm trying to do with these questions.

Please run the command

/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -dump >~/Desktop/lsdump.txt

which will put a text file "lsdump.txt" on your desktop. Then upload that entire file somewhere where we can access it, such as pastebin.com.
