Plug-in to view captures on the web

0

We at Cloudshark.org just released a free plug-in for Wireshark that lets you upload captures directly to CloudShark. We've made versions for each platform that Wireshark runs on. Written using the lua extensions for Wireshark, the plug-in appears in the Tools menu after installation.

If you are unfamiliar with CloudShark, it is a web based capture management and analysis application - free to use at Cloudshark.org. Since you can view, analyze, annotate, and share the captures directly through a URL, it works in most browsers and can be viewed on mobile devices. Check it out an let us know what you think!

Why did you tag it with Lua?

We used the lua extensions provided in Wireshark to create the plugin. It's a use of lua many don't know about.

Interesting. While I like this plugin (and intend to try it out), I don't think this Q&A is the place to announce it...but that's just my opinion. In any case, I think the "question/announcement" should be updated to at least mention the plugin was written in Lua. Otherwise, the tag has no weight and should be removed.

Good point. Done.

We thought it would be extremely useful to the people on this forum; the question/answer is a consequence of the format of the forum unfortunately.

Actually, the first FAQ says:

This is a discussion forum, right?

No. This is a Q&A site. Answers move up and down depending on votes. If you treat it like a traditional time-descending web forum things can get very confusing.

We will be hosting a Webinar on the CloudShark plugin for Wireshark on February 16th, for those who are interested.

As helloworld notes, this isn't a forum; the question/answer is a consequence of the fact that, as the FAQ notes, this is a Q&A site.

The best place to announce this would probably have been the wireshark-users mailing list.

Editing the Tools page on the Wireshark Wiki to mention it might also be a good idea.
